Just when you feel comfortable on the routine you have with your baby…. Along comes the dreaded teething stages.

Teething starts for some babies as early as 3-4 months and all the way till most of their milk teeth are out. Drooling, putting fingers or other objects into the mouth, irritability, loss of appetite, diarrhea, a slight temperature are all signs that your baby and/or toddler might be teething.

I personally am a believer in amber necklaces/bracelets as a natural ‘homeopathic’ remedy for teething. I believe it helps to reduce the teething pain and associated irritability and as such I have used the amber necklaces for all my three kids.

Baby J currently wears a mixed coloured Baltic Amber necklace which I bought from DBBabies located at Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi, when she was 4 months old. I took it off after she turned a year old, as I thought she didn’t need it anymore. (how wrong was I !!!!!!)

She is now 16 months old. I can see multiple little white teeth sprouting and she is miserable because of this… So, last week she started wearing her necklace again and in the last few days I can see an improvement with her drooling, putting her fingers in her mouth and general crankiness when she wants to eat/drink.

How does it work?

Worn over a continuous period of time, warmth from the skin releases the active ingredient in the Baltic Amber, succinic acid, a resin, which is absorbed into the bloodstream. Amber is made from the fossilized plant resin found in the Baltic Sea. Most of the unique and amazing properties of Baltic Amber is that it offers a natural alternative to the relief of teething pain and reduces inflammation.

Are they safe to wear?

Amber necklaces are made to be very safe for babies to wear under their clothes. The necklace isn’t very long (around 12 inches), its light weight and comfortable. Most of the necklaces and bracelets are strung individually, with each bead double knotted separately. The necklace is fastened with a screw clasp which is made from highly durable material. This way, in case it breaks, only that specific bead/end will fall.

You can take them off during bath, swimming and while asleep. (I usually leave it on during bedtime, it stays under their sleepsuit and isn’t uncomfortable).

The necklaces come in gorgeous colours from pale yellow, honey, cognac, cherry and black cherry… Preferably raw or semi-polished as these contain higher amounts of succinic acid.
